Campers arriving soon to help repair local homes

Written by

DEXTER - Around 380 campers from church youth groups will be coming to Dexter on Sunday to help repair homes.

It's the first time Group Mission Trips, a non-profit Christian volunteer home-repair organization out of Colorado, is hosting a summer camp in Dexter.

Our news team was at the Ridge View Community School on Thursday as group leaders were setting up.

The campers will be staying at Ridge View, and spend the week doing house repair work for the elderly and those with disabilities.

Those in charge said it teaches kids valuable lessons.

"They get mixed up with other youth groups so they're working on sites with people that they've met the night before. They learn how to connect with residents of different ages or different backgrounds as them," said Emily Riggs, the office manager for this trip.

Many of the campers are from the northeast, and some are coming from as far as Arizona.

While signup for this camp is closed, group leaders said they are still fundraising.
