Lincoln Loon Festival returns

Written by

LINCOLN - Music, food and fun -- including a Redneck Regatta -- highlight this weekend's Lincoln Loon Festival.

The family friendly summer festival opens Thursday and runs through Sunday.

The weekend offers something for everyone, including arts and crafts, beach events and roaming railroad train rides.

The theme for this year's parade is "Wicked Mainer." It steps off at 11 a.m. Saturday.

According to Kelly Ryder, chairwoman of the Lincoln Events and Tourism Committee, one of the festival's major attractions is truly a "Wicked Mainer" event.

"We have a Redneck Regatta on Saturday, which is a boat race, and the boats are just made of duct tape and cardboard," Ryder said.

The 72nd annual River Drivers Bean Hole Bean Supper is set for 4 p.m. Thursday and on Saturday, a performance by the Jacob Smalley band leads up to the grand fireworks show at 9:30 p.m.
