The Texas vs United States lawsuit was filed by 20 Republican state officials, including former Maine Gov. Paul LePage. It argues the entire Affordable Care Act is unconstitutional.
Legislators highlighted on Tuesday what they felt would be the devastating impacts on nationwide health care if the lawsuit prevails.
"I know of no single litigant, lawyer or lobbyist who's calling for the end of the ACA that gets their needed medical care or the care for a family member are under that program. None of those people, including those arguing in New Orleans today are saying 'please, stop allowing me and my family to receive healthcare," said Rep. Thom Harnett, D-Gardiner.
Currently, the suit is being argued in United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in New Orleans, Louisiana.
