Gideon to take on Collins in 2020

Written by

STATEWIDE - Maine Speaker of the House Sara Gideon announced Monday morning that she will be running against incumbent Susan Collins for a seat in the

U.S. Senate.

In her video announcement, Gideon outlined her history as a public servant in Maine.

That included her time as a town councilor, state representative and now speaker. The Democrat from Freeport has worked on legislation focused on affordable healthcare, job training, women's rights, and Maine's opioid epidemic.

In her campaign video, Gideon criticized Sen. Susan Collins for some of her recent Senate votes.

Collins was first elected to the Senate in 1996 and is the most senior Republican woman in that body of Congress. She is up for reelection in 2020.
