Maine closer to approving rules for retail pot sales

AUGUSTA - Lawmakers discussed rules and regulations concerning launching a regulated cannabis market in Maine during a hearing on Monday.

An owner of a local marijuana dispensary said that Monday's public hearing is a push toward what he believes is a fair, safe, sustainable and productive legal cannabis ecosystem.

"This is significant because it is been over two and a half years since the state of Maine and Maine voters have approved adult-use marijuana and this will be one of the final steps to ensure that Mainers can have access to taxed and tracked cannabis here in Maine," said Legalize Maine President Paul McCarrier.

Currently, legislation regulating the cannabis market is still being worked on at the State House.
