Museum offers program for kids with autism

BANGOR - The Maine Discovery Museum is working to make the world a little more accessible.

My Day to Play is a free program for kids with autism that the museum has been holding for the past six years.

On select Sundays throughout the year, the museum holds after-hour events so kids can have a safe and comfortable environment to discover the world.

It also gives families a chance to connect to others facing similar struggles.

"Have a good time. Have fun. Enjoy. Explore the museum. For some people it's the first time, others come every single time. They always appreciate it and say thank you for doing this," said museum volunteer Rosalyn Fisher.

The next My Day to Play is set for Aug. 25. The theme will be "Get Ready for School."
