Calais nurses concerned hospital is unsafe for patients

CALAIS - Nurses at Calais Regional Hospital were expected to hold a vigil for patient safety Thursday night.

A spokesperson for the Maine State Nurses Association (MSNA) said hospital administrators are putting profit ahead of patient safety.

"Nurses and staff from across the hospital are very concerned about the deteriorating conditions inside the hospital, based on poor decision making by hospital management," said Todd Ricker of the MSNA.

Hospital spokesperson Dee Dee Travis said "patient health and safety is our number one priority. The claims that patients are unsafe receiving care at Calais Regional Hospital are completely unfounded."
