Still no budget agreement in Augusta

AUGUSTA - State lawmakers will return to Augusta Monday with hopes of reaching a budget agreement.

They worked over the weekend, but still no breakthrough. Funding education remains a sticking point.

Republicans want to do away with a voter approved referendum that raises taxes for the wealthy in order to pay for education.

Democrats support the plan and neither side has been willing to budge.

Lawmakers have been trying to reach an agreement on the $7 billion plan in order to avoid a state government shutdown.
