Pedestrian struck by vehicle in Ellsworth

ELLSWORTH- An Ellsworth man is seriously injured after he was hit by a car Friday afternoon.

Police tell us a 75 year old male from Surry was driving in Ellsworth just before five o'clock.

He went to make a left hand turn from Water Street onto Main Street when he struck a pedestrian.

“When he turned, the sun got into his eyes. He went to put his sun visor down. And the male that was walking crossed in front of him, he was not in the crosswalk at the time,” said Sgt. Chad Wilmot with the Ellsworth Police Department.

Sgt. Wilmot tells us the pedestrian that was struck is a 78 year old man, and he has extensive head injuries.

He was taken by ambulance to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, but it is not clear at this point if those injuries are life threatening.

No charges will be filed at this point.
