LePage made the statement following Wednesday's shooting in Washington that injured five people including a Republican congressman.
According to the Bangor Daily News, LePage said he's thinking about carrying a pistol because he feels the need to protect himself after the incident. He also has received requests from other republican lawmakers who want to carry their own weapons while at the Statehouse.
Current rules forbid that for anyone other than police , but the lawmakers have asked the governor to deputize those with concealed handgun permits so they can protect themselves. .
