2017 Blue Hill Pops Concert

The 27th annual Blue Hill Pops Concert, sponsored by the Bagaduce Music Lending Library, will be held on Monday, July 3 at 7:30 pm in the George Stevens Academy gymnasium on Union Street in Blue Hill. This year's festival of "Sounds Around Blue Hill" will feature Maine singer/songwriter and instrumentalist Don Campbell and his band performing a salute to 1970’s singer-songwriters, with a special tribute to Dan Fogelberg. Named Maine’s Best Singer/Songwriter by the Maine Sunday Telegram’s Annual Readers’ Poll six consecutive years, Campbell and his band have opened for Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Willie Nelson, Charlie Daniels and many other musical luminaries.  Other 2017 Blue Hill Pops performers will include Velocipede, a violin and guitar duo playing traditional fiddle tunes; Big Moose contra dance group; and the Bagaduce Pops Singers, under the direction of Bronwyn Kortge.    For tickets or further information please call the Bagaduce Music Lending Library at 374-5454.

Penobscot River Exploration

Hirundo Wildlife Refuge will be exploring new shores in its annual paddle, on Saturday, July 8 (rain date July 9). Event runs from 2:30 to approx. 7:30 pm, with 3+ hours paddling time. No canoe experiences necessary! All paddling equipment is provided including 28’ foot canoes, each seating 10 people including a guide. You bring water, a snack, appropriate clothing and enthusiasm. Along the way, the canoes will raft together for talks about Island ecology and more… Wear your “Best” Hat (your imagination is the limit) for a chance to win a great prize.  Meet at the Greenbush Public Landing, Rt. 2 (8.7 miles north of Old Town). This trip is designed for ages 12-16 and is a 3-day, 2-night program based out of the Appalachian Mountain Club's brand-new Medawisla lodge! Campers will experience all the fun and excitement of a stay at one of AMC's famous wilderness lodges. Activities will include hiking, swimming, paddling, fishing and so much more. Campers will learn about the outdoors, our natural resources, make new friends, enjoy fantastic meals and lodging! Registration ends June 23rd. Native Peoples of the Pleasant River Area Program

Pleasant River Historical Society announces its first program Friday, July 14th at 7pm in the Summer Series focusing on the Native peoples of the Pleasant River area. The program is led by Chris Sockalexis speaking on the very earliest peoples of Eastern Maine.

Chris Sockalexis is a member of the Penobscot Nation and is the Penobscot Nation Tribal Historic Preservation Officer. In this position, his mission is to manage, preserve, and protect the Penobscot Nation’s cultural and historic properties, resources, and interests within the Penobscot cultural landscape of Maine. He is a graduate of the University of Maine with a degree in Anthropology focusing on Maine Archaeology. His current research at the University of Maine’s Climate Change Institute involves Cultural Identity and Maritime Adaptation within the Gulf of Maine.

The program is Friday evening, July 14th at 7pm at Church on the Hill,  Ridge Road (off Rte. 1) in Addison, Maine. It will be preceded by a brief business meeting of Pleasant River Historical Society at 6:30pm and refreshments will be served. There is no charge for any program of the PRHS. The public is very welcome. Mark your calendars!

Skowhegan KOA Care Camps Craft Fair Fundraiser

We will be having a craft for to support KOA Care Camps.  Care Camps is a program that raises money to send children with cancer to camp for one week with their families.  100% of the proceeds from this event will be going to this great cause!

Blues, Brews & BBQ

Renowned blues artist from all over the United States are coming to the Bangor Waterfront for the third annual, Blues, Brews & BBQ presented  by Penobscot County Fenderal Credit Union. This year's festival will be our biggest yet. Two days packed with some of the best artist & best music on the blues scene today!
